The Australia and Tasmania Grand Tour

This is Part 3 of the Grand Tour

Part 1, November 1 - 8, 2027, 8-day tour in the Sydney, Australia area

Part 2, November 9 - 18, 2027, 10-day road trip from Sydney to Melbourne

**Part 3, November 18 - 24, 2027, 7-day tour to Tasmania

Part 4, November 24 - 29, 2027, 6-day road trip from Melbourne to Sydney

**You do not need to sign-up for all 4-parts. Each part is a separate tour, and you will be able to join or leave the tour in between each part.  If you sign-up for more than one part, there will be an "overlap day" as one tour ends and another starts on the same day.  Please call and contact us for specifics.

Tasmania 7-day Tour

This tour will start in the Melbourne area.  We will take the overnight ferry to the island of Tasmania and spend 4 full days birding the island.  On day six, we will fly back to Melbourne, and the tour ends on day seven with either your flight home, or continuation back to Sydney via the 6-day road trip, which is Part 4.

• Travel Dates: November 18 - 24, 2027
• Group Size: 7 travelers, spots left = 8
• Trip Length: 7 days
• Rates:  $4,350 per person (based on double occupancy and an extra $850 for single occupancy.)
• Rates include:  Lodging, meals on days 2 - 6, daily birding tours, airport transfer to/from Sydney (SYD) and/or Melbourne (MEL), overnight-night ferry from Geelong (Melbourne area) to Tasmania, one-way flight from Hobart to Melbourne, and basic travel insurance.
• Not included: International airfare, snacks, alcohol, dessert, meals on days 1 and 7, and trip cancelation insurance.
• Adventure level:  Easy, please check the "Welcome" page for definition
• Reservations: To reserve a spot on the trip, a non-refundable 30% deposit is required, and the non-refundable balance is due six months prior to the trip.  

Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival in Melbourne/Geelong
If you were on the Part 2 tour and arrived the day before via the 10-day road trip from Sydney, this day you will be on your own because some guests might be leaving, and some guests might be arriving, and that will be the activity for the day while we get reorganized in between tours.  Your hotel will be included for the night and breakfast, but lunch and dinner are not included.  If this will be the start of travel for you, we will meet you at the Melbourne Tullamarine International Airport (MEL) with a shuttle transfer to the Eden Oak Geelong Hotel, where we will stay for 1-night. The Melbourne Airport is a 1-hour drive from Geelong.  No activities for the day. Meals on your own.

Day 3: Devonport, Tasmania arrival
The overnight ferry docks at about 6:00am, which is about the same time as sunrise.   After disembarking, we will pick up our vehicle and start a full day of birding.  Our route will head east and then follow the coast to the Scamander River and beaches.  Drive time will be 3 - 4 hours, birding the entire way.  We will spend one night at the Scamander Beach Resort on the east coast. 

Day 4: Hobart/Rosetta
From our lodging in Scamander, it is a 3-hour drive to Hobart, where we will be staying just north of the city in an area called Rosetta.  We will stay 2-nights at the Riverfront Motel.  This is an excellent location for visiting areas in southern Tasmania. 

Day 6: Melbourne
Our lodging in Rosetta is a 25 minute drive from the Hobart International Airport (HBA).  We will be taking an early afternoon flight to the Melbourne International Airport (MEL).  It is a 1.5 hour flight, and we will have a few hours of birding the Hobart area in the morning.  Once we arrive in Melbourne, we will be staying at the Holiday Inn, which is across the street from the airport. 

Day 7:  Departure day
If this is your last day of travel, there will be a shuttle to the airport for your flight home.  If you are continuing on with Part 4, the 6-day road trip to Sydney, then this will be an "on your own day".  There are no scheduled activities.  Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are on your own.
