Day 1: Arrival at St, John’s
Pick up at the St. John's International Airport, Newfoundland (YYT).  Activities for the day depend on your arrival time.  Most flights to St. John’s connect in Toronto or other Canadian cities like Ottawa or Montreal.  Depending on your city of origin, it will take 2 -3 flights to get to St. John’s. Lodging will be located at a hotel just outside of St John’s that is adjacent to good birding.  We will stay for 2-nights at the Holiday Inn St. John's Conference Centre.

Day 2: St John’s
A full day of birding and exploring the historic sites of St John’s. Stops for the day include:  Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, Fort Amherst, Signal Hill National Historic Site, East Coast Trail - Deadman's Bay Path, and Kent pond.

Day 3:  Gander
From our lodging in St. John’s it is a 3-hour drive to Gander.  Gander has a long history of aviation.  Before airplanes could carry enough fuel to make it to Europe, Gander was usually the last stop for refueling.  During 911 when all flights were ground, many landed in Gander and local families took in stranded passengers.  North Atlantic Aviation Museum is excellent.  Birding stops for the day:  Butter Pot Provincial Park, Terra Nova National Park, and Cobb's Pond Trail. Lodging for 1-night is at the Albatross Hotel.

Day 4:  Deer Lake
From Gander, it is a 3-hour drive to our lodging at Deer Lake. Birding locations for the day:  Corduroy Brook Nature Trail, Salmonid Interpretation Centre, and the Newfoundland Insectarium. Lodging for 1-night at the Holiday Inn

Day 5:  St Barbe
From Deer Lake to St Barbe, it is a 3.5 hour drive.  St. Barbe is where the ferry terminal is for the crossing of the Strait of Belle Isle over to Labrador.  Along this route there are many birding locations, many are quick roadside stops.  We will stop at as many as possible. The main stops for the day are Gros Morne National Park and Arches Provincial Park.  Lodging for 1-night at the Dockside Motel

Day 6: Ferry to Blanc Sablon, Labrador
Our hotel in St. Barbe is located next to the ferry terminal.  The boat leaves at 10:30am.  It is a 1:45 minute ferry ride across the Strait of Belle Isle over to Labrador.  During late May there might be icebergs floating in the strait, we expect to see numerous pelagic birds, and sometimes people see polar bears. Our lodging in Blanc Sablon is a 10-minute drive from the ferry terminal.  We will have time in the afternoon to do some birding at the L'Anse Amour National Historic Site and the Point Amour Provincial Historic Site. Our lodging for 2-nights will be at the Auberge Hotel.

Day 7:  Blanc Sablon
A full day exploring the Labrador coast. Our morning excursion will be a 1-hour drive to the west of Blanc Sablon to the village of Old Fort, where the highway ends. Lunch back in Blanc Sablon and in the afternoon, we will head east along the highway to Pinware River Provincial Park and Red Bay National Historic Site & World Heritage Site.

Day 8:  St, Anthony
Our ferry back to St. Barbe leaves at 10:30am and we will be back in Newfoundland by 12:30pm. From there it is a 1.5 hour drive to St. Anthony. Birding stops along the way:  The Marjorie Bridge & Thrombolites Walking Trail and a few roadside stops.  Lodging for 2-nights will be at the Grenfell Heritage Hotel.

Day 9:  St. Anthony
From our hotel in St. Anthony, it is a 45-minute drive to L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, which is a Norse Viking settlement from the year 1021.  It is a beautiful area for walking and birding as well. In the afternoon we will visit the Burnt Cape Ecological Reserve

Day 10:  Port au Choix
After a morning of birding in the St. Anthony area, it is a 2.5 hour drive to our next destination at Port au Choix. Stops for the day:  Torrent River Interpretation Center, Port au Choix National Historic Site, and the Point Riche Lighthouse.  Lodging for 1- night at the Sea Echo Motel.

Day 11:  Deer Lake

Day 12:  Clarenville
This will be our lonest driving day.  It is a 4.5 hour drive to Clarenville.  We will mostly drive straight there with only a few stops. Once we are close to Clarenville, we will revisit Terra Nova National Park. Lodging for 1-night at the Clarenville Inn.

Day 13: Trepassey
Our travel from Clarenville to Trepassey is a 3-hour drive with many roadside stops along the way, including the Salmonier Nature Park. Our lodging at Trepassey for 1-night is the Edge of the Avalon, located along the stunning southern coastline and beaches.

Day 14: St John’s
On this day we head back to St. John’s, and it is a 2-hour drive to our hotel located close to the airport. Stops along the way:  Chance Cove Provincial Park and La Manche Provincial Park.  If you are interested in seeing Atlantic Puffins and Marine Wildlife, there is a 2:30pm boat trip with Gatherall’s Boat Tours, that lasts 2-hours to see puffins and whales.
