Denmark, Sweden, the Åland Islands and Oslo, Norway
Scandinavia is beautiful and serene. If you love boats and maritime history and if you love spending a lot of time on and by the sea, this trip is for you. Scandinavia is a special place and we will be visiting some very unique locations. We will be following the paths of the Vikings, as well as the birds!
We start out this 19 day trip in Copenhagen, visiting the very famous Tivoli Gardens & Park. Then we will head north to Sweden, spending time along the south west coast of Skåne and Halland. Next we will travel to Stockholm before heading to the Åland Islands of Finland. Then we travel back to Stockholm for our flight to Oslo. From Oslo we will travel by boat back to Denmark.
Highlights: 1) Sailing the Åland Islands of Finland. 2) Walking the coastal trails and exploring the big woods of Skåne, Sweden. 3) Visiting the maritime and Viking museums of Oslo, Norway.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Copenhagen (fly day)
Flights are overnight so day one will be spent on the plane.
Day 2: Arrive in Copenhagen (arrival day)
We will arrive in Copenhagen in the morning. Copenhagen is a beautiful city, with great history and much to see. We will be staying in the heart of the city at one of Copenhagen classic hotels. Copenhagen has several large parks for seeing the local city birds.
Day 3: Copenhagen (culture & birding day)
This is a great city to tour on foot! There is a lot to see and do. We will be visiting Tivoli Gardens, walking along the canals and visiting historic sites.
Day 4: Kullaberg Peninsula (travel & birding day)
It is a one hour train ride to Helsingor, then a 20 minute boat ride across the water to Sweden and then a one hour shuttle ride to the Kulla Peninsula. We will be staying at the Strandgården in Mölle.
Day 5: Kullaberg Peninsula (birding & adventure day)
The Kulla Peninsula is a very beautiful part of Sweden. There are lots of birds and natural wonders here. Over 700 species of birds have been identified here. We will spend two days in Kulla exploring the sea coast and the big forests of the area. There are a lot of good adventures and sights to see here!
Day 6: Hallands Väderö (birding & adventure day)
We will be taking a day trip to Torekov and out to the island of Hallands Väderö, which is a special little island with hiking trails and woods and a beautiful rocky shoreline. From Torekov it is a short drive to Hovs Hallar for the night.
Day 7: Hovs Hallar (birding & adventure day)
We will awake in the beautiful Hovs Hallar Nature Preserve, which has many miles of coastal trails to explore. Then in the evening, we will be going into the town of Båstad for dinner and shopping.
Day 8: Stockholm (travel & culture day)
It is a six hour train ride northeast to Stockholm. We will be staying on the Mälardrottningen, which is a 1924 yacht that was once the world’s largest motor yacht and now has been converted into a hotel. It is a treat to stay here.
Day 9: Stockholm (culture & shopping day)
Our hotel is very near the historic part of Stockholm call Gamla Stan; great old city streets to walk down and explore. The city of Stockholm is built on part of a large archipelago encompassing 24,000 islands. You are never far from the water here and we will be taking several boat tours of the area.
Day 10: Åland (travel & leisure day)
From Stockholm, it is a six hour ferry ride out to the Åland Islands of Finland. We will arrive very late in the evening to Åland and head straight to our hotel.
Day 11: Åland (birding & adventure day)
There are some 6,000 islands that are collectively called Åland. The islands are a very special place with a great history and strong culture.
Day 12: Åland (birding & adventure day)
Åland has a proud history of boat building and sailing. We will take a few short sailing tours of the surrounding islands. There are also a lot of great foot paths for exploring nature and looking for birds.
Day 13: Åland (birding & adventure day)
There is a lot to see and do on the Åland Islands and three days is a short time here. Bicycle is a great way to tour Åland. Most of the islands are connected by either bridge or ferry.
Day 14: Stockholm (travel & culture day)
Back in Stockholm we will have time to revisit the city and the museums. We will be staying in the Gamla Stan area
Day15: Oslo (travel & leisure day)
From Stockholm, we will be flying to Oslo. It is a short 1 hour flight. Oslo has a great downtown walking mall with great shops and historic sites. There are beautiful gardens around the Royal Palace and also some great botanical gardens near by. All are good places to spot local birds.
Day 16: Oslo (culture & birding day)
Today we will be visiting the Viking and Maritime museums. Here you will find some of the best preserved Viking ships and maritime history in Scandinavia.
Day 17: Ferry Boat (travel & birding day)
From Oslo we will be taking the boat back to Copenhagen. This is a 14 hour overnight cruise. The views through the Oslo Fjord are wonderful! There are good opportunities for bird sightings from the boat.
Day 18: Copenhagen (culture & shopping day)
We arrive in Copenhagen in the early morning and we will have the day to revisit Copenhagen. We will be staying once again in the heart of the city at one of Copenhagen classic hotels.
Day 19: Fly Home (tears & smile day)
Flights usually leave in the morning, so getting to the airport and getting home is our only activity for the day.
